The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, stated that the Renewable Energy Growth Plan is historic and represents a decisive step toward the country’s energy sovereignty, as it contemplates the incorporation of 32,000 megawatts (MW), of which 70 percent will come from clean energy sources.

During the morning press conference “Las mañaneras del pueblo,” the federal president emphasized that the program involves an investment of 739 billion pesos and aims to promote a more sustainable energy system with reduced dependence on natural gas and fossil fuels.

Sheinbaum Pardo noted that this effort will help reduce polluting emissions and advance toward a cleaner energy matrix, while strengthening the country’s energy security by decreasing natural gas imports.

For her part, the Secretary of Energy, Luz Elena González Escobar, explained that the plan includes a mixed investment model with a predominant role of the State in electricity generation, as well as targets to expand photovoltaic, wind, geothermal, and hydroelectric energy.

Meanwhile, the Director General of the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), Emilia Esther Calleja Alor, presented strategic projects such as “Oasis” in Baja California Sur and the Rafael Galván Maldonado Photovoltaic Plant in Sonora, considered the largest in the Americas, both of which are part of the national energy transition.

With these actions, the Government of Mexico aims to consolidate a sustainable energy model with environmental, social, and economic benefits, focused on strengthening national sovereignty and the well-being of the population.
