President of Mexico Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo announced the arrival of the first 12 locomotives for the Maya Train freight system, a strategic railway project for southeastern Mexico that is expected to begin operations in 2027.
From Puerto Morelos, Quintana Roo, the president reported that these locomotives have already begun participating in the transportation of materials for the construction of the Maya Train freight system, representing an important step forward in the development of this infrastructure project.
During a supervision tour at the “Puerto Morelos” station of the Maya Train freight system, Claudia Sheinbaum highlighted the importance of this railway network in strengthening connectivity and creating new development opportunities for the southeastern region of Mexico.
The supervision included the participation of the Secretary of National Defense, General Ricardo Trevilla Trejo; the commander of the “Felipe Ángeles” Engineers Group, General Gustavo Ricardo Vallejo Suárez; the general director of the Maya Train, General Manuel Jaime Ramírez Camacho; and the general director of the Agency for Trains and Integrated Public Transportation (ATTRAPI), Andrés Lajous Loaeza.
Also present were the governors of Quintana Roo, Mara Lezama Espinosa, and Campeche, Layda Sansores San Román; as well as the governors of Yucatán, Joaquín Díaz Mena; Tabasco, Javier May Rodríguez; and Chiapas, Eduardo Ramírez Aguilar, representatives of the states where the Maya Train passenger service operates and where the freight railway system will be developed.
