President of Mexico Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo reported that, one year and nine months after the beginning of her administration, intentional homicides have decreased by 48 percent, falling from an average of 86.9 cases per day in September 2024 to 45.4 in June 2026, representing 41 fewer cases every day.
During the morning press conference “Las mañaneras del pueblo,” the president stated that this reduction is the result of the implementation of the four pillars of the National Security Strategy: Addressing the Causes, Consolidation of the National Guard, Strengthening Intelligence and Investigation, and Coordination.
Sheinbaum Pardo highlighted that the objective of her administration is to continue reducing homicides, robberies, and extortion cases through permanent actions carried out by the Security Cabinet. She also assured that there is a policy of zero impunity and that action is taken against any person when there is evidence of the commission of a crime.
For her part, the executive secretary of the National Public Security System, Marcela Figueroa Franco, reported that the daily average of intentional homicides recorded in June 2026 is the lowest since 2015, while the first half of the year registered the lowest average for a similar period since 2016, with 49.7 cases per day.
The Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, Omar García Harfuch, reported that from October 2024 to June 2026, more than 59,500 people were arrested for high-impact crimes, 31,000 firearms were seized, and nearly 500 tons of drugs were confiscated. In addition, authorities dismantled 2,600 clandestine laboratories and concentration areas used for methamphetamine production.
