President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, announced that, thanks to the National Security Strategy, March 2025 recorded 12 fewer intentional homicides per day compared to September 2024. She attributed this decrease to the implementation of four key pillars: addressing root causes, strengthening the National Guard, improving intelligence and investigation, and enhancing coordination among authorities.
During her morning press conference, “The People’s Morning Briefing,” Sheinbaum emphasized that these results reflect the effectiveness of public policies rooted in Mexican Humanism, especially the house-to-house outreach in high-crime areas. She noted significant progress in states like Guanajuato, where homicides dropped by 48% in the last three weeks, as well as improvements in Guerrero, Tabasco, Baja California, and Sinaloa.
Marcela Figueroa Franco, Executive Secretary of the National Public Security System, reported that the daily average of intentional homicides fell by 14% from September 2024 to March 2025—making it the month with the lowest rate since 2018. The first quarter of 2025 saw a 24.8% reduction in homicide victims, reaching 75.5 victims per day, compared to 100.5 in March 2018.
Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, Omar García Harfuch, announced that in the first six months of Sheinbaum’s administration, 17,258 individuals have been arrested for high-impact crimes. Authorities have seized nearly 9,000 firearms, 140.5 tons of drugs—including over 2 million fentanyl pills—and dismantled 750 methamphetamine labs in 17 states. As part of Operation Northern Border, more than 26 tons of drugs and high-caliber weapons were also confiscated.
Secretary of the Interior, Rosa Icela Rodríguez, added that over one million preventive actions have been carried out nationwide. These include 1,424 Peace Days and 122 Peace Fairs. Through the program “Yes to Disarmament, Yes to Peace,” 1,297 firearms and 3,162 toy weapons have been collected and exchanged for educational materials—highlighting the government’s commitment to building peace through social justice.
