Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo announced she would visit the states of Veracruz and Puebla on Thursday to supervise cleanup operations and the direct delivery of aid to families impacted by the heavy rains recorded on October 9 and 10. These efforts form part of the federal government’s immediate response strategy to assist disaster-stricken communities.
During her morning press conference, “Las Mañaneras del Pueblo,” Sheinbaum stated she would tour the municipalities of Poza Rica and Álamo in Veracruz, before continuing her visit in Puebla. She emphasized the importance of verifying firsthand the progress of cleanup efforts and ensuring that financial and material support is reaching affected residents efficiently.
The president noted that on Wednesday, October 22, the federal government began disbursing the first round of direct financial aid—20,000 pesos per affected household—along with grocery vouchers and essential household items, through the Ministry of Welfare. Aid distribution began in the states of Veracruz, Puebla, Querétaro, and San Luis Potosí, while in Hidalgo, it is scheduled to commence on October 25.
These efforts align with the federal government’s approach of delivering support directly and without intermediaries, aiming to provide timely and effective assistance to those who have suffered material losses due to natural disasters. The Sheinbaum administration continues to prioritize transparency and accountability in its emergency response strategy.
President Sheinbaum reaffirmed her commitment to maintaining a close presence in the affected areas, personally overseeing relief efforts and ensuring that government support is delivered promptly and fairly. “No one will be left behind,” she stated, underscoring the administration’s humanitarian focus.
