Before 40,000 people gathered at the Olympic Stadium in Tapachula, President of Mexico Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo led an accountability event highlighting the strategic projects that will turn Chiapas into a development hub in the coming years, such as the Economic Development Poles for Wellbeing (PODECOBI), the modernization of Puerto Chiapas, and Line K of the Interoceanic Train.

The president emphasized that Tapachula is set to consolidate itself as an economic center for Mexico and Central America. She reported that the Navy is already tendering two PODECOBI projects and that the “Line of Transformation” —which will connect Ixtepec, Oaxaca, with Ciudad Hidalgo, Chiapas— will be completed in 2026. She also announced that the Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transport will repair bridges damaged by recent incidents in the region.

Sheinbaum specified that in Chiapas, 1,906,955 people benefit from one or more Welfare Programs, representing a social investment of 45.939 billion pesos. These include the Pension for Seniors, Benito Juárez Scholarships, Production for Wellbeing, Sowing Life, and the Women’s Welfare Pension.

The president also highlighted ongoing infrastructure projects such as the construction of the freight line of the Maya Train, strategic highways, and rural roads, along with flood protection works. She pointed out that in social matters, LIBRE Centers for women are being built, homes under the Housing for Wellbeing program are advancing, and health services are being strengthened with hospitals, clinics, and dialysis units in various municipalities.

Chiapas Governor Eduardo Ramírez Aguilar attended the event and recognized the president’s leadership, affirming that her administration has brought trust, certainty, and peace to the state, particularly in terms of security.
