During her accountability tour in Mérida, the President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, announced that Yucatán will join the IMSS Bienestar health system in 2026. From the X’matkuil Fairgrounds, the president reported that in December the construction of the new “Agustín O’Horán” General Hospital will be completed, with an investment of 4.709 billion pesos, benefiting 2.1 million residents of Yucatán.

As part of this process to strengthen the health system, plans also include the reconstruction of the General Hospital of Ticul, the remodeling of Regional General Hospital No. 12, and the construction of the “Francisco Montejo” Family Medical Unit in Mérida. These projects are part of an integrated strategy to guarantee the right to health in the state.

The president also emphasized the construction of a network of community centers known as PILARES (Points of Innovation, Freedom, Art, Education, and Knowledge), a commitment made during her campaign. These centers will offer free services such as literacy, cultural activities, trades, sports, and educational opportunities to finish high school or university, open to people of all ages.

Sheinbaum Pardo also detailed that currently 645,420 people in Yucatán receive direct support from the Welfare Programs, with a social investment of 15.955 billion pesos. Beneficiaries include senior citizens, people with disabilities, students of all levels, farmers, and participants in programs such as Youth Building the Future, Sowing Life, and Bienpesca.

Finally, the president stressed that multiple infrastructure projects are underway in the state: the Maya Train line to Puerto Progreso, port expansion, new schools, industrial development, housing construction, and the reduction of unpayable loans from Infonavit and FOVISSSTE. Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena thanked the federal government for its support and recognized Sheinbaum’s leadership as key to the Mayan Renaissance and the transformation of southeastern Mexico.
