President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo reported that intentional homicides in Mexico have decreased by 44 percent nationwide between September 2024 and February 2026, dropping from a daily average of 86.9 victims to 48.8, which represents 38 fewer homicides each day.
During the press conference “Las mañaneras del pueblo,” the president highlighted that the reduction has been consistent month after month, noting that February 2026 recorded the lowest homicide figures in at least a decade.
Sheinbaum explained that these results stem from the National Security Strategy and the coordinated work between the Government of Mexico and state authorities, as well as strengthened intelligence and investigative efforts in public security operations.
Federal authorities reported that from October 1, 2024 to February 28, 2026, a total of 46,405 people were arrested for high-impact crimes. Authorities also seized 24,122 firearms, 346.55 tons of drugs, and dismantled 2,318 clandestine laboratories.
Additionally, under the “Addressing the Root Causes” strategy, more than 5.5 million services and administrative procedures have been delivered, benefiting over 3.5 million people through programs and initiatives aimed at preventing violence and strengthening peace within communities.
