President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo led the International Women’s Day commemoration at the Campo Deportivo Militar Marte, paying tribute to women serving in Mexico’s Armed Forces and highlighting their role in defending and strengthening the nation, as well as their contribution to building a more just and inclusive country.

During the ceremony, the president emphasized that recognizing women in the military also represents a commitment to continue promoting institutions that are fairer and free from discrimination, harassment, and violence. She also noted that women’s participation in the Armed Forces opens the path for new generations of Mexican women.

Sheinbaum recalled that Mexico’s history has been shaped by women who contributed to the building of the nation, including Leona Vicario, Josefa Ortiz Téllez-Girón, Gertrudis Bocanegra, Manuela Molina, Altagracia Mercado, and Mariana Rodríguez del Toro during the War of Independence; Margarita Maza and Ignacia Riesch during the Reform era; and Carmen and Natalia Serdán, Dolores Jiménez y Muro, Hermila Galindo, and Adela Velarde during the Mexican Revolution.

The president stated that today’s women serving in the Army, Air Force, and Navy represent the continuation of that legacy and serve as an example for girls and young women who now know they can occupy any role within the nation’s institutions.

During the ceremony, recognitions and decorations were awarded to 30 women from the Army, Air Force, and National Guard, 10 members of the Navy, and 20 members of the Ministry of Women, honoring their outstanding service in both public and military roles.
