President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo reported that, according to preliminary figures, intentional homicides in Mexico have recorded an annual reduction of 45 percent, decreasing from 91.7 in 2024 to 50.8 in the first quarter of 2026, as a result of the National Security Strategy.

During the “Las Mañaneras del Pueblo” press conference, the president emphasized that the daily average of homicides also fell by 41 percent between September 2024 and March 2026, representing 35 fewer cases per day and placing March of this year at the lowest level since 2016.

In this context, she announced the creation of the Command School within the National Public Security Academy, which aims to train secretaries, deputy secretaries, and security commanders under principles of integrity, professionalism, humanism, and respect for human rights, while strengthening coordination among institutions.

Meanwhile, Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection Omar García Harfuch reported that from October 1, 2024, to March 31, 2026, authorities achieved the arrest of 49,530 individuals for high-impact crimes, as well as the seizure of 25,700 firearms, nearly 500 tons of drugs, and the dismantling of 2,330 clandestine laboratories.

It was also highlighted that high-impact crimes have decreased by 52 percent compared to 2018, while several states across the country show significant reductions in homicides, as part of a comprehensive strategy that includes social actions, recovery of public spaces, and programs addressing the root causes of violence.
