President of Mexico Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo reported that intentional homicides decreased by 40 percent between September 2024 and April 2026, dropping from a daily average of 86.9 cases to 52.5, representing 34 fewer homicides per day. She also highlighted that April 2026 became the month with the lowest incidence of this crime in the last 11 years.

During the “Las Mañaneras del Pueblo” press conference, the federal president attributed these results to coordination between the Government of Mexico and state authorities as part of the National Security Strategy, which, she stated, is strengthened daily through the work of the Security Cabinet.

Marcela Figueroa Franco, head of the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System, detailed that the daily average of homicides during the first four months of 2026 was 51.2 cases, the lowest figure since 2016. She added that eight states accounted for 53 percent of intentional homicides recorded in April of this year, including Chihuahua, Guanajuato, Morelos, Baja California, Sinaloa, the State of Mexico, Veracruz, and Guerrero.

She also highlighted that 26 states reduced their daily average of intentional homicides compared to the first four months of 2025, with San Luis Potosí, Zacatecas, and Quintana Roo standing out. She further noted significant reductions in states with high crime rates, such as the State of Mexico, Baja California, Sonora, Zacatecas, and Guanajuato.

Meanwhile, Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection Omar García Harfuch reported that from October 1, 2024, to April 30, 2026, authorities seized 28,000 firearms, more than 391 tons of drugs, and dismantled 2,337 clandestine laboratories in 22 states across the country. In addition, as part of the National Strategy Against Extortion, 1,310 people linked to this crime were arrested.
