In the past ten months, Quintana Roo has achieved a 61.3 percent reduction in the daily average of intentional homicides, thanks to the National Security Strategy, reported Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo during her morning press conference held at the Chetumal Naval Air Base.

The president highlighted that this figure marks a historic achievement for the state, which has also seen decreases in high-impact crimes and an increase in public and private investments. “This is very good news for Quintana Roo. In addition to the reduction in intentional homicides, investments continue to arrive along with federal government projects such as the Nichupté Bridge and dignified housing for everyone,” she stated.

Marcela Figueroa Franco, Executive Secretary of the National Public Security System, explained that in September 2024 the state averaged two homicide victims per day, a figure that in July 2025 dropped to 0.77 —the lowest recorded since 2017. In the municipality of Benito Juárez, the reduction reached 70.6 percent, while across the state, high-impact crimes have decreased by 29.2 percent.

Security and Citizen Protection Secretary Omar García Harfuch reported that from October 1, 2024, to August 11, 2025, 3,258 people were arrested for high-impact crimes, 1,352 kilos of drugs were seized, along with nearly 300 firearms, 6,228 rounds of ammunition, and hundreds of magazines, with a prosecution linkage rate above 90 percent. Additionally, under the National Anti-Extortion Strategy, 214 people have been arrested, and there have been no recorded cases of kidnapping.

Regarding infrastructure, Infrastructure, Communications, and Transportation Secretary Jesús Esteva Medina reported an 85 percent completion rate for the Nichupté Vehicle Bridge, which will be delivered in December 2025. With an investment of 8.6 billion pesos, it will benefit 1.3 million residents, cut travel time by 45 minutes, and feature 11.2 kilometers of length, three lanes, and a bike path.

In housing, Infonavit Director General Octavio Romero Oropeza announced the construction of 8,128 homes in Benito Juárez, Othón P. Blanco, and Playa del Carmen, with deliveries starting this year. By the end of 2025, contracts will be signed to begin 30,000 homes, followed by another 40,000 in 2026.
