President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo announced a major healthcare modernization strategy that includes the incorporation of state-of-the-art medical equipment across IMSS, ISSSTE, and IMSS-Bienestar facilities, as well as internet connectivity for all Health Centers nationwide to implement a Digital Medical Record system as part of the Universal Health Service.
During her morning press conference, the president explained that the goal is for every Mexican citizen to have a single digital medical record. This initiative will improve healthcare services, facilitate the exchange of information between hospitals and health centers, and strengthen communication between general practitioners and medical specialists.
Sheinbaum emphasized that the transformation of the healthcare sector also includes the construction of 29 new hospitals, approximately 20 Health Centers and Family Medicine Units, the hiring of additional medical personnel under improved working conditions, the consolidated purchase of medicines, and the expansion of services such as hemodialysis.
Zoé Robledo Aburto, Director General of IMSS, reported on several technological innovation programs, including the voice-recognition system “Look Me in the Eyes,” Digital Consultations through video calls, the acquisition of 41 high-precision CT scanners, and the expansion of robotic surgery programs in highly specialized hospitals. He also highlighted the operation of the CyberKnife system at the National Medical Center “Siglo XXI,” a technology used for highly precise and minimally invasive procedures.
Meanwhile, Alejandro Svarch Pérez, Director General of IMSS-Bienestar, announced an investment exceeding 13 billion pesos to incorporate 32,000 medical devices into the healthcare network. Martí Batres Guadarrama, Director General of ISSSTE, reported the launch of four Mammography Interpretation Centers equipped with artificial intelligence capable of analyzing more than 400,000 studies annually. Through these initiatives, the Government of Mexico aims to strengthen the quality, coverage, and efficiency of healthcare services throughout the country.
