President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo reaffirmed the Mexican Government’s commitment to deploy the full strength of the State to ensure comprehensive assistance for people affected by the recent heavy rains in Veracruz, Hidalgo, Querétaro, Puebla, and San Luis Potosí, assuring that “no one will be left behind.”
During her morning conference, “Las Mañaneras del Pueblo,” the president reported that the Wellbeing Census has already begun, with 4,178 households registered across 30 municipalities, as part of a coordinated operation to deliver direct aid to affected families. She recognized the joint efforts of federal, state, and municipal authorities, as well as the security and health institutions, emphasizing that recovery work continues tirelessly to restore services and reopen access routes in the most impacted communities.
Priority actions include reopening transportation routes, establishing air bridges for the delivery of food and water, cleaning and sanitizing affected areas, and providing preventive medical care to avoid outbreaks of diseases such as dengue. Sheinbaum expressed her gratitude to SEDENA, SEMAR, the National Guard, the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transport (SICT), and the health sector for their active participation in the emergency response.
Jesús Antonio Esteva Medina, Secretary of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transport, reported that of the 358 road interruptions recorded in the state networks, 99 have already been cleared and 144 are under repair, in addition to 39 affected bridges. A total of 137 active work fronts are operating with over 4,700 workers and 667 pieces of heavy machinery to rehabilitate roads and ensure connectivity.
Meanwhile, Emilia Calleja Alor, Director General of the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), announced a 91% restoration of electrical service in the five states, including the reactivation of 25 hospitals and the clearing of blocked roads.
The health sector has deployed 471 vaccination brigades, 242 medical teams, and vector control units in all affected states. So far, over 7,700 medical consultations have been provided and 90 people hospitalized. The IMSS, ISSSTE, and IMSS-Bienestar maintain emergency operations in hospitals, rural clinics, and mobile units, with more than 1,000 health professionals active in the field.
Ariadna Montiel Reyes, Secretary of Welfare, also announced that 5,000 participants from the Youths Building the Future program will join the cleanup efforts in the affected communities. President Sheinbaum confirmed that she continues to hold daily coordination meetings with the National Emergency Committee and state governors until the contingency is fully overcome.
