The Government of Mexico reported that, from September 2024 to July 2025, the daily average of intentional homicide victims decreased by 25.3 percent, equivalent to 22 fewer homicides each day. According to the Security Cabinet, this reduction is the result of the National Security Strategy implemented by President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, based on four pillars: addressing root causes, consolidating the National Guard, strengthening intelligence and investigation, and inter-institutional coordination.
Marcela Figueroa, head of the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System, stated that the daily average of homicides dropped from 86.9 in September 2024 to 64.9 in July 2025, making it the month with the lowest number of cases since 2015. In this period, 23 states reduced their incidence, with notable results in Guanajuato (-60.7%), State of Mexico (-45%), Nuevo León (-72.9%), Baja California (-35.8%), and Tabasco (-48.6%).
Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection Omar García Harfuch reported that, between July 18 and August 10, 2025, authorities arrested 2,458 people for high-impact crimes, seized 901 firearms, 12 tons of drugs, and dismantled 65 clandestine laboratories. Since the start of the current administration, more than 29,000 individuals have been detained, and 216 tons of drugs have been seized, including 3.5 million fentanyl pills, as well as the closure of 1,262 laboratories in 21 states.
In the fight against extortion, from July 6 to August 6, 18,239 calls were received through the 089 tip line, of which 10,538 corresponded to unsuccessful attempts, 6,276 to reports of numbers used for extortion, and 1,425 to confirmed cases. During this period, 132 suspected extortionists were arrested, with Tabasco reporting 56 arrests, the State of Mexico 34, Michoacán 14, and Guerrero 11.
Secretary of the Interior Rosa Icela Rodríguez Velázquez noted that, as part of the “addressing causes” pillar, more than 4,000 Peace Days, 154,000 home visits, 249 community fairs, and the recovery of 176 public spaces have been carried out. Additionally, over 35,000 families have benefited from the Welfare Market initiative, and through the “Yes to Disarmament, Yes to Peace” program, more than 5,000 firearms and 4,844 toy weapons have been voluntarily exchanged for recreational alternatives.
