The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, reported that from September 22 to 26 the second delivery of medicines and supplies is being carried out through the “Health Routes” program, with the goal of ensuring supply in 8,342 Health Centers across the 23 states that are part of IMSS Bienestar. In this stage, 9,632 kits with 147 types of medicines will be distributed.
Sheinbaum Pardo emphasized that this distribution scheme will be carried out monthly in order to guarantee that health centers, hospitals, and specialty hospitals have the necessary items to provide timely care to the population. She reiterated that the government’s commitment is to ensure universal and free medical care, with sufficient supplies in every unit.
The General Director of IMSS Bienestar, Alejandro Svarch Pérez, recalled that this mechanism is a territorial network that guarantees supply through trucks, vans, small aircraft, boats, and motorcycles, in addition to medical and administrative staff who assemble and deliver the packages throughout the country. He highlighted that since the official launch on August 19, 28 million medicines have been distributed to 8,061 Health Centers and 578 hospitals, through 11,364 kits.
Meanwhile, the Undersecretary of Sectoral Integration and Coordination of Medical Care Services, Eduardo Clark García Dobarganes, reported that in August 186 million units of medicines and supplies were received, a figure 138 percent higher than that registered in May, reflecting the strengthening of supply capacity.
With these actions, the Government of Mexico highlighted that health institutions have a supply level close to 100 percent: IMSS and ISSSTE reach 97 percent, IMSS Bienestar 92 percent, and 96 percent in cancer medicines, thus guaranteeing continuity of care and access to quality treatments throughout the country.
