President of Mexico Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo inaugurated the Academic Unit of the Rosario Castellanos National University and the Technological, Industrial, and Services High School No. 305 in Kanasín, educational facilities that will benefit 2,380 high school and university students.
During the event, the federal president emphasized that her administration is working to guarantee access to education as a right through the expansion of educational spaces across the country. In this regard, she recalled that between 2025 and 2026 the government plans to create 200,000 new places in upper secondary education and 300,000 additional spaces in higher education.
Claudia Sheinbaum stated that the Fourth Transformation has promoted the strengthening of rights such as education, healthcare, and housing, while also announcing that healthcare service fees in Yucatán’s public system will be eliminated. She further reiterated the Federal Government’s support to address potable water supply issues in Mérida and its metropolitan area.
Yucatán Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena reported that the new Rosario Castellanos University campus required an investment of 103 million pesos for construction and equipment, and includes 31 classrooms, computer centers, a multipurpose laboratory, and technological connectivity spaces.
University Rector Alma Xóchitl Herrera Márquez indicated that the institution already has a presence in 48 municipalities across Yucatán through distance education and announced that a new enrollment call will open in June to admit 1,500 additional students at the Kanasín campus. In addition, CBTIS No. 305 in Mérida was inaugurated, built with an investment of 68 million pesos and with capacity to serve more than 1,000 students.
