Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo reported that from September 2024 to May 2026, the country recorded a preliminary 49 percent reduction in intentional homicides, with the daily average of victims decreasing from 86.9 to 44.3, as a result of the National Security Strategy implemented by the Federal Government.

During the conference “Las mañaneras del pueblo,” the president stated that these results stem from permanent, professional, and coordinated work between the Security Cabinet, federal institutions, and state governments. She also emphasized that the strategy is based on addressing the root causes of violence and on a policy of zero impunity.

Sheinbaum Pardo highlighted that among the main achievements is the dismantling of nearly 2,400 clandestine laboratories and production sites for methamphetamines, as well as the seizure of more than 400 tons of drugs. She also pointed to a 76 percent reduction in fentanyl seizures along the United States border, decreasing from 863 to 208 kilograms between October 2024 and April 2026.

Meanwhile, Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection Omar García Harfuch reported that during this period authorities detained nearly 54,300 suspected criminals, as well as 85 public officials and former officials linked to illegal activities. He added that nearly 30,000 firearms have been seized and intelligence and investigative efforts have been strengthened through the issuance of 4,600 alert notices.

Federal authorities also noted that the Attention to the Causes strategy has enabled thousands of young people to join educational, sports, and cultural programs, while expanding social welfare and prevention initiatives throughout the country. The federal administration reiterated that it will continue working to consolidate peacebuilding efforts and reduce crime rates in Mexico.
