President of Mexico Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo announced that a historic investment of nearly 59 billion pesos will be made during 2026 to strengthen school infrastructure throughout the country, as part of efforts to guarantee access to education as a fundamental right.
During the morning press conference “Las mañaneras del pueblo,” the president explained that these resources correspond to the investment made by the Government of Mexico, not including contributions from state governments. She noted that the projects are being carried out through programs such as La Escuela es Nuestra and the Multiple Contributions Fund.
Claudia Sheinbaum highlighted that this investment is part of a comprehensive strategy to improve education in Mexico, together with the Becas para el Bienestar scholarship programs at all educational levels, salary improvements, the pension fund for teachers, and consultation processes aimed at improving conditions within the educational system.
The Secretary of Public Education, Mario Delgado Carrillo, detailed that of the total amount, 37.715 billion pesos will be allocated to Basic Education; 10.9164 billion pesos to Upper Secondary Education; and 9.7839 billion pesos to Higher Education, with projects focused on expanding educational spaces and strengthening schools.
For her part, the general director of the La Escuela es Nuestra program, Pamela López Ruiz, reported that during this year 71,482 schools have been attended through a social investment of 22.694 billion pesos, benefiting educational institutions from early childhood education to high school, with priority given to communities facing greater conditions of vulnerability.
