Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo conducted a working tour in Veracruz, where she led an assembly of the Jóvenes Construyendo el Futuro (Youth Building the Future) program in Xalapa and inaugurated flood protection infrastructure in the Bobos River region, reaffirming her administration’s commitment to social welfare, inclusion, and community development.
In Xalapa, the president emphasized that the goal of Jóvenes Construyendo el Futuro is to provide work experience and guarantee access to decent employment opportunities for younger generations. She reported that from 2019 to 2026, the program has benefited more than 3.5 million young people, with an investment exceeding 170 billion pesos. Participants also receive monthly financial support equivalent to the minimum wage and social security coverage through the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS).
Sheinbaum also highlighted efforts to expand educational opportunities through the creation of 200,000 new spaces in upper secondary education and 330,000 additional places in higher education across various public institutions. She reiterated that access to education, healthcare, and dignified employment should be recognized as a fundamental right for all Mexicans.
Later, in Martínez de la Torre, the president inaugurated a 10-kilometer containment wall surrounding the Bobos River, a project designed to prevent flooding in five communities located in the municipalities of Martínez de la Torre and Misantla. The infrastructure required an investment of 700 million pesos and will benefit hundreds of families that have historically faced risks from rising river levels.
Sheinbaum stated that the project reflects a government committed to addressing citizens’ needs and noted that the National Water Commission is currently carrying out thousands of hydraulic infrastructure projects throughout the country. Veracruz Governor Rocío Nahle García also highlighted the importance of the new infrastructure for the safety and peace of mind of local families.
