President of Mexico Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo presented the prototype of the Olinia electric mini-vehicle, a national project designed to address mobility needs in cities and communities across the country with an affordable, economical, and zero-emission model.
During her presentation at the morning press conference “Las Mañaneras del Pueblo,” the federal president emphasized that the goal is to consolidate a Mexican-owned brand in the automotive industry, noting that Olinia is designed to be a cheaper, more efficient vehicle adapted to the streets and roads of the national territory.
The vehicle, whose production is scheduled to begin in 2027, is 100 percent electric, can be charged using a conventional electrical outlet, has low operating costs, and reaches speeds of up to 50 kilometers per hour. It also features a functional design for passenger transport and light cargo.
Sheinbaum Pardo announced that a cargo version of the mini-vehicle will be presented in July, while a first look at the prototype is already available on the official website www.olinia.auto, where further details will be released on June 7.
Science, Humanities, Technology and Innovation Secretary Rosaura Ruiz Gutiérrez and Project Director Roberto Capuano Tripp highlighted that Olinia is the result of the work of more than 80 specialists from institutions such as the National Technological Institute of Mexico (TecNM), the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN), and public research centers, aiming to promote electromobility and strengthen the country’s technological sovereignty.
