During the commemoration of the 164th Anniversary of the Battle of Puebla, President of Mexico Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo stated that the country will not submit to external interests and warned that those who seek foreign support due to a lack of popular backing are destined to fail.

At the ceremony held at the Monument to Ignacio Zaragoza, the president underscored that sovereignty, freedom, and independence are non-negotiable principles for the nation, while highlighting that the Mexican people have historically demonstrated their ability to defend them.

“Those who seek external support because they lack popular support in our country are destined to defeat… no foreign power will tell Mexicans how we are governed,” she said, recalling the legacy of resistance that defined the events of 1862.

In this context, the head of the Executive Branch administered the oath to more than 31,000 soldiers of the National Military Service and nearly 800 female volunteers, urging them not to forget the historic struggle of May 5 as a symbol of defense against foreign invasions.

She was also joined by federal authorities and the governor of Puebla, Alejandro Armenta Mier, in laying a floral tribute in honor of General Ignacio Zaragoza and attending the civic-military parade, reaffirming that Mexico is a free nation that defends its dignity and self-determination.
