President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo presented the ambitious Mundial Social México 2026, a series of cultural, sports, and educational activities leading up to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted by Mexico, the United States, and Canada. The goal is to leave a lasting legacy for the country and showcase to the world a just, free, democratic nation with immense cultural richness.

During her morning press conference, Sheinbaum emphasized that the international event will serve as a platform to highlight the talent, history, and strength of the Mexican people. “The eyes of the world will be here, and what they will see is a magnificent country, with an enormous cultural heritage, and hardworking Mexican women and men who always move forward,” she said. She underscored that the strategy goes beyond sports, promoting social cohesion, arts, health, and well-being.

The program includes 177 México 2026 Festivals, 74 World Cup Youth Tournaments, 10,631 urban-art murals, 4,208 rehabilitated sports fields, cultural activities in archaeological zones and museums, as well as initiatives related to health, robotics, gastronomy, inclusion, the environment, and education. New tourist routes will be created through the “Conoce México” app, and organizers aim to break three Guinness World Records related to soccer.

The organization of the Mundial Social involves multiple federal agencies — including the Ministry of Public Education (SEP), the Ministry of Culture, IMSS, IMJUVE, DIF, Profeco, and the Ministry of Tourism — which will coordinate school tournaments, inclusion-focused youth competitions, robotics events, physical activations, and educational campaigns. Additionally, 5,000 participants from the Jóvenes Construyendo el Futuro program will serve as ambassadors in tourism, culture, and hospitality.

Finally, President Sheinbaum stated that the Mundial Social 2026 reflects a new model of government centered on people, culture, social justice, and collective well-being. “This World Cup will not only be a sports celebration — it will be a reflection of who we are as a country: supportive, creative, diverse, and proud of our roots.”
