During the ceremony commemorating the 204th anniversary of the Mexican Navy and the 201st anniversary of the 1824 Constitution, President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo emphasized that national sovereignty must be earned, protected, and defended every day, with the support of institutions committed to the people’s values.
“Sovereignty is neither an easy inheritance nor a fleeting gift. It is earned and defended through values: honor, loyalty, duty, patriotism, and honesty. And the Mexican Armed Forces embody these values,” declared the president during the ceremony held in the port of Veracruz, accompanied by members of her Cabinet and representatives from the Legislative and Judicial branches.
The president also recalled the founding of the Navy on October 4, 1821, the promulgation of Mexico’s first Federal Constitution in 1824, and the victory of November 23, 1825, which secured national independence at sea—events that, she said, reflect Mexico’s long journey in defense of its sovereignty.
During the event, Sheinbaum inaugurated the Plaza del Heroísmo Veracruzano, a joint project between the Secretariat of the Navy, ASIPONA, and the local government, representing an investment of more than 133 million pesos and generating 700 jobs. The plaza features a central obelisk and monuments honoring naval heroes Virgilio Uribe and José Azueta.
Sheinbaum praised the Navy’s current role not only in safeguarding national waters but also in social work, medical assistance, civil protection, and strategic infrastructure. She also thanked Admiral Raymundo Pedro Morales Ángeles, Secretary of the Navy, and General Ricardo Trevilla Trejo, Secretary of National Defense, for their dedication and patriotism.
As part of the commemorative program, a military parade took place featuring 3,871 naval personnel, vehicles, vessels, aircraft, canine units, and a representation of the training ship Cuauhtémoc, which set sail from New York to Mexico carrying new cadets on board.
