Before a massive crowd gathered in Mexico City’s Zócalo, President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo delivered an emotional address marking her first year in office, reaffirming that Mexico is moving in the right direction toward a profound transformation rooted in social justice, equality, and national sovereignty.

“My commitment to you is to be a President worthy of the generosity and greatness of our history and our people. Long live the dignity of the people of Mexico!” Sheinbaum declared, as thousands of citizens gathered in the iconic square to show their support.

During her speech, she recognized the historic role of women, highlighting that for the first time in history, women are present at all levels of government. She emphasized that the Fourth Transformation is not an ordinary administration but a movement guided by principles: “We did not come just to administer; we came to transform the nation.”

Historic Progress in Economy and Social Welfare

Sheinbaum underscored that under the Mexican Humanist Model, 13.5 million people were lifted out of poverty between 2018 and 2024. Economic inequality also decreased, with the income gap between the richest and poorest shrinking from 27 to 14 times, making Mexico the second least unequal country in the Americas.

Among the key achievements she cited:

  • Annual growth of 1.2%
  • Record levels of foreign direct investment
  • 13.8% growth in tourism
  • 2.7% unemployment, among the lowest globally
  • 3.7% annual inflation

Constitutional Reforms and Rights Expansion

Over the past 12 months, 19 constitutional reforms and 40 new laws were enacted, including:

  • Recognition of Indigenous and Afro-Mexican peoples as legal subjects
  • Protection of native corn varieties and a ban on transgenic corn

  • Amendment to Article 123 to guarantee the right to housing for workers
  • Inclusion of substantive gender equality in the Constitution
  • Ban on reelection starting in 2030 and on nepotism in public office

She also announced new proposals to reform the Amparo Law to protect public resources from private interests.

Security, Infrastructure, and Strategic Projects

Following the National Security Strategy, Sheinbaum reported a 32% reduction in homicides, equivalent to 27 fewer murders per day, thanks to four key pillars: prevention, the National Guard, intelligence, and intergovernmental coordination.

She highlighted advances in major railway projects, such as the Gulf of Mexico Train, the Maya Freight Train, and the Interoceanic Train, along with bypasses, key highways, and over 500 kilometers of rural artisan roads.

In water management, she announced the recovery of 4 billion cubic meters of national water and reforms to the National Water Law to ensure universal access.
