Acapulco, Guerrero.– President of Mexico Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo led the inauguration and flagging ceremony of the Acapulco Marinabús, a new maritime transport system operated by the Navy that will connect Puerto Marqués with the Zócalo, offering fast, safe, and sustainable transfers.
From the Jardín del Puerto dock, the federal president highlighted that this project symbolizes Acapulco’s recovery after the impact of hurricanes Otis and John, as it represents both a mobility alternative and a boost for tourism and the strengthening of the local economy. “Acapulco is standing tall, and its recovery is a message of hope for the entire country; no disaster is stronger than the will of a people united with their government,” she stated.
During the protocol ceremony, Sheinbaum handed the National Flag to the Marinabús commander and supervised the Administration of the National Port System (ASIPONA) of Acapulco, where she announced that 10 percent will be rehabilitated and 90 percent will not require intervention. The new vessel, which had been inactive for 14 years, is 25 meters long, 7 meters wide, with a capacity for 80 passengers, operated by 11 sailors, and capable of reaching a speed of 12 knots (22 km/h).
The Marinabús is part of the program “Acapulco Transforms with You”, through which more than 250,000 actions have been carried out for housing rehabilitation and reconstruction, school and hospital repairs, hydraulic works such as the Papagayo II aqueduct, dredging of rivers and streams, highway and bridge rehabilitation, and infrastructure projects to improve water supply, as well as strengthening security and promoting tourism in the port.
After the event, the president boarded the vessel and received ticket 001 to make the inaugural trip from the Jardín del Puerto dock to the Bay of Santa Lucía, accompanied by federal, state, and naval authorities, in an act that reaffirms the tourist and economic reactivation of Acapulco.
