Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo led the inauguration of the LIBRE Center for Women in the municipality of Silao, Guanajuato—a space dedicated to empowerment, freedom, and the comprehensive development of Mexican women. This initiative is part of a national strategy to establish a LIBRE Center in every municipality in the country.

During the event, Sheinbaum emphasized that these centers reflect the Government of Mexico’s commitment to substantive equality and the eradication of gender-based violence. “This LIBRE Center tells Mexican women: you are free to think, to read, to grow, and to build your autonomy. We are not more or less than anyone—we are equals,” she declared.

Nationwide, 678 LIBRE Centers are now in operation, offering free workshops, sports activities, legal counseling, and psychological support. In the state of Guanajuato, 19 centers have been active since June 16, promoting solidarity, collective learning, and personal empowerment among women.

Minister for Women Citlalli Hernández Mora highlighted that with the arrival of Mexico’s first woman president, conditions for women are being transformed through constitutional reforms and gender-focused public policies, such as these centers. Guanajuato Governor Libia Dennise García Muñoz Ledo acknowledged the joint effort between federal and state governments in supporting women across the state.

President Sheinbaum concluded by affirming that Mexico now fully recognizes the historic and current role of women in building the nation. “There is nothing more powerful than when women unite. Mexico would not be what it is without us,” she said.
