The Government of Mexico has announced that beginning in August 2025, the Health Routes system will begin nationwide operations—a distribution network of medicines and medical supplies aimed at ensuring efficient delivery to IMSS Bienestar hospitals and clinics throughout the country, including remote islands and hard-to-reach regions.

During her morning press conference, President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo highlighted that this program builds on the model previously implemented in Veracruz by Governor Rocío Nahle, known as the “Health Vans,” which is now being scaled up federally. The routes will include 96 trucks with 3.5-ton capacity, 38 trucks of 1.5 tons, 35 sanitation units, 27 refrigerated containers, and vehicles adapted for specific regional needs.

The system is part of a historic investment of 284 billion pesos allocated for the Consolidated Medicine Purchase for 2025–2026, of which 96 percent of supplies have already been acquired. Citizens will be able to consult detailed procurement data at monitoreocompra.salud.gob.mx and track deliveries at entregamedicamentos.salud.gob.mx.

Additionally, IMSS Bienestar will receive an extra 4 billion pesos to ensure that every hospital, operating room, and Family Medicine Unit is fully staffed and equipped. To date, 13 hospitals and 8 clinics have been inaugurated; by year’s end, 19 more hospitals and 6 additional medical units will be added.

Other notable measures include the upgrade of 80 ISSSTE operating rooms benefiting 2 million people, the reinforcement of primary healthcare, and the acquisition of 29 million measles vaccines. Health authorities stated that these efforts reaffirm the federal commitment to building a public health system with universal coverage, quality, and equity.
