At the 51st G7 Leaders’ Summit held in Kananaskis, Alberta, Canada, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to advance bilateral cooperation through strategic investments in science and technology. Mexico is participating in the summit as an invited guest country.
During their meeting, both leaders emphasized the strong potential for collaboration between Mexico and India in key sectors such as agriculture, semiconductors, critical minerals, and healthcare. President Sheinbaum noted that this engagement marks a strategic opportunity to consolidate a relationship rooted in technological development and shared prosperity.
“At the G7 Summit, we met with Prime Minister @narendramodi to strengthen Mexico’s ties through investments focused on scientific and technological development,” Sheinbaum wrote on social media following the bilateral encounter.
For his part, Prime Minister Modi personally congratulated Sheinbaum on her historic electoral victory on June 2, 2024, when she became the first woman president in Mexico’s history. He highlighted the importance of deepening ties between the two countries and exploring new avenues of cooperation between their peoples.
Mexico’s participation in the G7—composed of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the European Union—underscores the nation’s growing influence in global affairs. The meeting with Prime Minister Modi further solidifies Mexico’s position as a key player in the international arenas of science, technology, and innovation.
