President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, announced a comprehensive set of initiatives to support women, including the creation of the National Network of Weavers of the Nation, the opening of 678 LIBRE Centers for Women, the launch of hotline 079 option 1, the registration of Women’s Legal Advocates, and the organization of 300 Women’s Assemblies titled “Voices for Equality and Against Violence.” These actions aim to strengthen care, protection, and empowerment for Mexican women, particularly in municipalities with high rates of gender-based violence.
During her morning press conference “The People’s Morning Briefing,” Sheinbaum emphasized that the Weavers of the Nation will be made up of volunteers who will organize to protect one another, share knowledge, and help disseminate information on women’s rights. Members will receive a Women’s Rights Handbook and a certificate signed by the President. They can register at tejedorasdelapatria.mujeres.gob.mx.
The LIBRE Centers will provide comprehensive care, including psychological, legal, and social support, and will operate under a participatory model where women decide how allocated resources are used. The Women’s Ministry aims to incorporate at least 800 attorneys into the new legal support system. Additionally, the 079 option 1 hotline will assist women facing situations of violence.
Welfare Secretary Ariadna Montiel Reyes reported that over one million women are already benefiting from the Women’s Wellbeing Pension, with an investment of more than 5.5 billion pesos. Currently, 58.7% of all beneficiaries of Mexico’s social programs are women—underscoring the gender-focused approach of the country’s welfare policies.
As part of this initiative, IMSS Director Zoé Robledo introduced the new Childhood Education and Care Centers (CECI). The first five centers will begin construction on April 30 in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, on land donated by the municipality. With a preventive and educational design, each CECI will serve up to 250 children, ensuring safe conditions, professional attention, and comprehensive development.
