President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo has called on all Mexican citizens to participate in the upcoming June 1 election to choose justices, judges, and magistrates of the Judicial Branch—a historic first in the country. She described the vote as a democratic milestone, allowing the people to directly elect those responsible for delivering justice in Mexico.

“It is a historic election and an example to the world. Let no one forget: June 1 is the day of the Judicial Branch election. We must all participate,” said the president during “The People’s Morning Briefing.” She stressed that this process marks progress in democratizing justice by ending the old model in which the Executive and Senate made appointments exclusively.

Secretary of the Interior Rosa Icela Rodríguez explained the legal framework allowing authorities to promote voter participation. Following a TEPJF ruling that amended the INE agreement, federal, state, and electoral bodies (OPLEs) can now disseminate information about the process without referencing candidates, maintaining institutional neutrality.

Rodríguez also detailed that each voter will receive six color-coded ballots, depending on the position and jurisdiction. These include the purple ballot for Supreme Court justices (SCJN), blue for Electoral Court magistrates, and pink and yellow for circuit magistrates and district judges, respectively. Each ballot is organized by gender and numerical order, and voters must mark the number corresponding to their chosen candidate.

She encouraged voters to visit the official INE microsite “Conóceles, Práctica y Ubica”, where they can explore the full list of candidates, use sample ballots, and locate their polling stations. “Informed participation is key to strengthening our democracy,” she concluded.
