President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo announced the contest “Represent Mexico at the World Cup Opening,” through which a young woman between 16 and 25 years old will receive ticket number 00001 to attend the opening match of the FIFA World Cup 2026 at Estadio Ciudad de México.

During her morning press conference, “Las mañaneras del pueblo,” the president explained that she decided to give away her own ticket so that a young female soccer player can represent the country at this international event. “I will watch it here with the people, and a young woman will represent us—she will represent me and the people of Mexico at the opening,” she said.

Interested participants may take part by submitting, from Monday, March 9 to Friday, April 10, a video showing their soccer skills by performing ball juggling. The video must be uploaded to the official website www.mundialsocial.gob.mx.

The winner will be selected by a committee composed of international referee Katia Itzel García, professional soccer player Charlyn Corral Ang, and sports journalist Gabriela Fernández de Lara, who will evaluate the participants’ skills and talent.

As part of the initiative known as the Social World Cup, the president also announced that 4,208 soccer fields will be built or rehabilitated across the country. Of these, 1,200 fields will be developed by the Mexican government, with the goal of promoting sports spaces that foster the development of new talent ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026.
