Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo reaffirmed her support for nationals living in the United States by rejecting the proposal to impose a 3.5% tax on remittances. She warned that, if necessary, her government would promote mobilizations to stop it. “We don’t want taxes on remittances that support Mexico’s most vulnerable,” she declared during the presentation of Priority Projects for San Luis Potosí.

Sheinbaum explained that a call has already been made to the migrant community to express their opposition to the U.S. Senate. “We will keep informing, and if necessary, we will mobilize,” she affirmed before hundreds of attendees. She reminded the audience that remittances are not only a lifeline for millions of Mexican families, but also a symbol of solidarity and cultural connection.

During her visit to the state, the federal president announced a joint investment of more than 1.9 billion pesos in 2025 for road, water, and railway infrastructure, including the construction of the Tamuín Airport, the Querétaro–San Luis Potosí train, the Huejutla–Tamazunchale highway, and projects to secure potable water supply for all 59 municipalities in San Luis Potosí.

Infrastructure, Communications, and Transport Secretary Jesús Antonio Esteva stated that 30 kilometers of the Tamazunchale–Huejutla highway will be completed this year. Progress also continues on the rail segment connecting Querétaro with San Luis Potosí, and later to Saltillo and Nuevo Laredo, with an estimated investment of 61.5 billion pesos. He also highlighted improvements to the Tamuín Airport and upgrades to road interchanges and access points.

Meanwhile, CONAGUA announced over 400 water infrastructure actions, including well rehabilitation, water network upgrades, and drinking water treatment plants. The Ministry of Welfare reported that 710,000 residents of San Luis Potosí already receive federal aid, and coverage will be expanded through new programs such as Well-being Pension for Women, Rita Cetina Scholarship, and Health House to House. Governor Ricardo Gallardo Cardona thanked the federal government for its support and reaffirmed his commitment as an ally of Mexico’s administration.
