President of Mexico Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo announced that the country has achieved food self-sufficiency in beans, driven by production in Zacatecas, during the inauguration of the “Beatriz González Ortega” Bagging Plant in the municipality of Sombrerete.

During the event, the president highlighted that in 2025 a production of 1.2 million tons of beans was reached, surpassing the target of one million tons. She also noted that the number of beneficiaries of the Acopio para el Bienestar program doubled to more than 96,000 producers, and announced its expansion.

Sheinbaum Pardo explained that a budget evaluation will be carried out with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to define the guaranteed price and strengthen this program, which eliminates intermediaries and allows the commercialization of the product in more than 26,000 Bienestar Stores across the country.

She also emphasized that the new plant will have the capacity to process and package more than 1,400 tons of beans per month under the label “Zacatecas Cosecha de Nuestra Tierra,” which will add value to production and strengthen the commercial chain.

At the event, federal and state authorities agreed that these actions promote food sovereignty and directly benefit producers through support programs, the delivery of inputs, and the strengthening of the agricultural sector.
