As part of a comprehensive plan to support those affected by recent heavy rains, President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo announced an initial investment of 10 billion pesos to assist families in the states of Veracruz, Hidalgo, Puebla, Querétaro, and San Luis Potosí. The program aims to provide direct financial aid and reconstruction measures to 100,000 affected households.

From October 22 to 29, each impacted family in Querétaro, San Luis Potosí, Puebla, and Veracruz will receive 20,000 pesos in direct aid. In Hidalgo, distributions will take place between October 25 and November 5, as census operations are still underway in some remote communities. President Sheinbaum noted that difficult weather conditions continue to hinder access to certain areas in Veracruz, Puebla, and Hidalgo.

Welfare Secretary Ariadna Montiel Reyes reported that as of October 19, a total of 70,445 homes had been surveyed: 43,578 in Veracruz; 10,811 in Puebla; 5,056 in Hidalgo; and 2,062 in Querétaro. The census has already concluded in Querétaro, Puebla, and San Luis Potosí.

In addition to direct financial aid, the federal government will distribute vouchers for essential household items such as refrigerators, stoves, mattresses, dishware, and fans, along with food packages. Housing reconstruction grants will range from 25,000 to 70,000 pesos depending on the severity of the damage. In high-risk areas, homes will be relocated with the support of the Ministry of Agrarian, Territorial, and Urban Development (Sedatu). Small businesses will also receive up to 50,000 pesos in support.

The agricultural sector will be assisted with grants ranging from 50,000 to 100,000 pesos per plot. In the education sector, 190,000 children will receive 350 pesos for school supplies, and 750 schools will undergo rehabilitation, each receiving an additional 200,000 pesos.

The “La Clínica es Nuestra” program will fund the reconstruction of 282 healthcare units, each with an extra 500,000 pesos in resources. To support reconstruction efforts, 50,000 temporary jobs will be created through the «Empleo Construyendo el Futuro» program, with monthly wages of 8,500 pesos from November to February, especially in Álamo and Poza Rica, Veracruz.

Furthermore, 5,000 young people will participate in community cleanup work through “Jóvenes Construyendo el Futuro,” by registering at the local Welfare and Health Modules.
