On the International Migrants Day, President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo reaffirmed the Mexican government’s position in favor of protection and cooperation for development, emphasizing that the country “is written with an M for Migrant.” Through the “Mexico Embraces You” strategy, 145,537 repatriations have been carried out and 846,000 services have been provided to returning Mexican nationals.
During her morning press conference, the president condemned all forms of criminalization against migrants and stressed that her administration promotes job alternatives in Mexico or assistance for the safe return to countries of origin. She emphasized that this strategy is based on empathy, international cooperation, and respect for human rights.
Secretary of the Interior Rosa Icela Rodríguez reported that, from January 20 to December 17, there were 116,156 land repatriations and 29,381 by air. Currently, nine care centers operate in seven states with a total capacity of 1,800 people, offering services such as food, transportation, identity paperwork, IMSS enrollment, and reintegration support.
