Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to staying close to the victims of the accident on Line Z of the Interoceanic Train, which occurred in Oaxaca. During her morning press conference, she announced that a government representative has been assigned to each affected family and that an initial support payment of 30,000 pesos was granted to cover immediate expenses, independent of the ongoing comprehensive damage reparation process.
The president reported that 36 people remain hospitalized and that continuous contact is being maintained with the families of those who sadly lost their lives. Psychological, legal, and logistical support has been provided for medical and administrative procedures. She also expressed gratitude to firefighters and Civil Protection personnel from the municipality of Matías Romero, as well as to citizens who showed solidarity by assisting the injured.
From Ixtepec, Undersecretary for Human Rights Félix Arturo Medina Padilla reported that all hospitalized individuals have been visited and a special hotline has been set up to provide case follow-up. Meanwhile, IMSS Director Zoé Robledo stated that the institution has treated 45 patients, most of whom have already been discharged, with 11 still under medical care.
Alejandro Svarch Pérez, head of IMSS Bienestar, guaranteed the continuity of medical treatment and ongoing support for the families. Gustavo Reyes Terán, Medical Director of ISSSTE, confirmed that patients in this institution remain stable and under constant medical attention.
President Sheinbaum concluded by emphasizing that the full reparation of damages will proceed according to the determinations made by the train’s insurance company and the Attorney General’s Office. Oaxaca Governor Salomón Jara Cruz acknowledged the prompt response of federal institutions to this unfortunate event.
