Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo highlighted that the federal government is promoting community-based infrastructure projects that generate deep social transformation, with an investment of 70 billion pesos this year for the maintenance of toll-free federal highways, feeder roads, and particularly 888 kilometers of rural “artisanal roads,” which will benefit 327,000 people across the country.
During the morning press conference “Las mañaneras del pueblo,” the federal executive noted that this infrastructure model incorporates new technologies and materials to ensure greater durability in rural and community roads, in addition to including works such as highways, bridges, schools, and hospitals in different regions of the country.
Infrastructure, Communications and Transport Secretary Jesús Esteva Medina reported that for 2026, an investment of 70 billion pesos is planned for the maintenance of federal highways, along with 3,042 bidding processes for infrastructure projects at different stages of awarding and contracting.
He detailed that this year’s National Highway Conservation Program foresees 50 billion pesos to intervene in 18,000 kilometers of road network, generating around 100,000 jobs nationwide, with significant progress in regions including the northwest, northeast, central, west-central, and south-southeast areas of the country.
Authorities also reported that through various maintenance and modernization programs, work fronts, crews, and resurfacing teams have been deployed across the country, along with supervision and monitoring systems to ensure timely response to incidents on the federal highway network.
