Mexico City – President of Mexico Claudia Sheinbaum highlighted that during her administration, 350 billion pesos will be allocated to educational infrastructure, surpassing the investment made in 18 years of the neoliberal era, with public education as the central focus of the Fourth Transformation.

During the morning press conference “Las Mañaneras del Pueblo,” Sheinbaum emphasized that in seven years, 341.786 billion pesos have been invested, while in the previous 18 years, only 304.907 billion pesos were allocated. “This demonstrates our commitment to education as a right for all children, with schools in dignified conditions and proper maintenance,” the president stated.

Secretary of Public Education Mario Delgado Carrillo specified that of the total 350 billion pesos, 113.732 billion correspond to 2026, and that 45% of the investment is channeled through the program La Escuela es Nuestra (LEEN). This year, the program will allocate 26 billion pesos to improve 75,405 schools, benefiting 8.5 million students in Basic and Upper Secondary Education.

Additionally, the investment includes 160 billion pesos for scholarships, salary increases, and creation of new teaching positions, as well as for new Upper Secondary and Higher Education schools, the National Baccalaureate, and the Rosario Castellanos University, with a 1.2 billion peso budget for 12 states in 2026. Since its creation in 2019, LEEN has granted 440,588 supports to 187,092 schools nationwide.

Finally, it was noted that third-grade secondary students in the Mexico City Metropolitan Area have until April 17 to register in Mi Derecho, Mi Lugar through the website miderechomilugar.gob.mx. This initiative reinforces the government’s goal of ensuring quality education and equitable access for all students.
