During the 14th Tabasco Chocolate Festival 2025, President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo announced the construction of the first Chocolate Bienestar Processing Plant, which will receive an initial investment of 80 million pesos and will be located in the municipality of Comalcalco as part of the Chocolate Route. The initiative aims to position Tabasco as the producer of the best chocolate in the world, boost cacao processing, and generate well-being for farming families.
The facility will be built on a two-hectare plot donated by the Government of Tabasco. María Luisa Albores González, Director of Food for Well-being, reported that during the first cacao collection cycle of 2025, a total of 149 tons were gathered with the participation of 1,300 producers, supported by an investment of 31.7 million pesos. By year’s end, projections estimate 400 tons collected with a cumulative investment of 88 million pesos. She also announced the launch of a new 75% cacao candy bar.
In her remarks, President Sheinbaum reiterated that this project is part of a comprehensive strategy to ensure that families can make a living from agriculture through fair prices and added value in their products. She highlighted that many women and young people have returned to cacao production, and that this plant will help consolidate the productive chain with fairness and dignity. “The best chocolate — not just in Mexico, but in the world — is from Tabasco,” she affirmed.
She also reiterated her government’s commitment to peace, national sovereignty, and social well-being. She rejected any attempt at external interference and stressed that in Mexico, the people and the government govern together in unity to strengthen the achievements of the Fourth Transformation.
Producer Francisca García Olán expressed gratitude for the government’s support, which gives visibility to rural communities and strengthens their economy. Meanwhile, Tabasco Governor Javier May Rodríguez celebrated the president’s fifth visit to the state and described the new plant as a fulfilled commitment within the Second Floor of the Fourth Transformation.
