The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, announced that her administration will implement the Energy Justice Program with the goal of bringing electricity to virtually the entire national territory, achieving 99.99 percent coverage by 2028 through more than 45,000 projects and an investment exceeding 21 billion pesos.
During the morning press conference “Las mañaneras del pueblo,” the president emphasized that this strategy is part of a social justice policy aimed at guaranteeing fundamental rights such as access to housing, healthcare, and electricity. She noted that although Mexico currently has an electrification coverage rate of 98.5 percent, isolated communities still require priority attention.
Secretary of Energy Luz Elena González Escobar explained that the program recognizes access to energy as a right and seeks to provide electricity to thousands of communities that still lack electrical infrastructure. Meanwhile, Emilia Esther Calleja Alor, Director General of the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), reported that the goal is to electrify 8,247 remaining localities through a phased plan that will prioritize communities with the greatest needs.
As part of the announced actions, the president also inaugurated the new Emergency Unit at the Xoco General Hospital of IMSS Bienestar, considered the largest and most advanced facility of its kind in Latin America. The complex features specialized technology for diagnostics and precision surgery, including a mobile CT scanner with real-time three-dimensional reconstruction, artificial intelligence-assisted neurosurgery equipment, and specialized emergency care areas.
In addition, through a live connection to the Lomas de San Miguel housing development in Puebla, Sheinbaum oversaw the delivery of 96 homes under the Housing for Wellbeing program. In the state, plans call for the construction of 75,000 new homes with an investment of more than 44 billion pesos, which will generate jobs and expand access to decent housing for thousands of families.
