President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo reported that, between October 2024 and March 2026, a total of 31,946 people previously reported as missing have been located, as a result of the national search and location strategy coordinated by the Ministry of the Interior.
During her morning press conference at the National Palace, the president highlighted that current legislation requires prosecutors’ offices to open investigation files in all cases, allowing for a detailed context of each disappearance and strengthening efforts to locate individuals and prevent impunity.
Sheinbaum Pardo emphasized that actions such as the National Immediate Search Alert have been implemented, along with the use of technological tools, including cyber police units, to identify risks on social media and digital platforms, which in some cases has enabled locating individuals in less than 48 hours.
She also noted that coordinated work among institutions has led to the arrest of 285 individuals for the crime of disappearance, in addition to strengthening collaboration between state prosecutors’ offices, the Office of the Attorney General of the Republic, and search commissions. It was also reported that there are currently 132,534 records of missing persons, according to the National Registry.
In a separate matter, the president reported that an interinstitutional group is maintaining ongoing actions in response to the presence of hydrocarbons in the Gulf of Mexico, particularly in areas of Veracruz and Tabasco, where emissions at the Cantarell complex are under investigation. She stated that containment, monitoring, and cleanup efforts are being carried out, along with the development of an alert system to address potential environmental contingencies.
