As part of her accountability tour, President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo emphasized that one of the priority actions for the state is the recovery of Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex)’s petrochemical industry, which includes the construction and rehabilitation of the Escolín project in Poza Rica, aimed at fertilizer production.
“In energy, something very important that Rocío (Nahle, governor of Veracruz) is helping us with is the complete construction and rehabilitation of the Escolín project in Poza Rica for fertilizer production, which has already begun. And we are recovering Pemex’s entire petrochemical industry,” stated the president.
During the event, Sheinbaum reported that 2,683,079 residents of Veracruz are beneficiaries of the Programs for Wellbeing, with an annual investment of 59 billion pesos. She recalled that these policies, along with the increase in the minimum wage and the recovery of public works, lifted 13.5 million people out of poverty between 2018 and 2024.
In Veracruz, the programs benefit more than 921,000 seniors with the universal pension; 114,000 people with disabilities; 248,000 students with Benito Juárez scholarships; more than 61,000 producers with Sembrando Vida; 159,000 farmers with free fertilizers; and more than 205,000 women with the Women’s Wellbeing Pension, among other supports.
In terms of infrastructure, Sheinbaum announced the construction of 64 Child Education and Care Centers (CECI), new hospitals in Minatitlán, Nautla, and Orizaba, as well as the replacement of hospitals in Pánuco, Misantla, and Tuxpan. Other projects include the La Cangrejera aqueduct, the access bridge to the Port of Veracruz, the expansion of high schools, and a new campus of the Rosario Castellanos National University (UNRC). Additionally, over 100,000 homes will be built with support from Conavi and Infonavit, along with debt forgiveness for more than 270,000 beneficiaries.
Governor Rocío Nahle García recognized Claudia Sheinbaum as a leader with international stature and assured that the next five years will consolidate the “Second Floor” of the Fourth Transformation in Veracruz.
