Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo officially launched the construction of 26,000 homes in Campeche as part of the Housing for Wellbeing program, through which access to decent housing is now enshrined as a constitutional right for all Mexicans. The president emphasized that, like other social programs, housing is now protected under the Constitution, ensuring its continuity for the benefit of the people.
During the groundbreaking ceremony, Sheinbaum highlighted that this program aims primarily to support workers earning between one and two minimum wages, reaffirming the core principle of the Fourth Transformation: “For the good of all, the poor come first.” She also announced the construction of a new campus of the Rosario Castellanos National University in Campeche, offering multiple degree programs, including health-related fields.
Secretary of Agrarian, Territorial, and Urban Development Edna Elena Vega Rangel detailed that of the 26,000 projected homes, 15,000 will be built by Conavi and 11,000 by Infonavit. This year, the construction of 5,000 homes will begin: 3,000 managed by Infonavit and 2,000 by Conavi. Additionally, the National Institute for Sustainable Land (INSUS) will issue titles for 8,000 plots of land, strengthening property access for thousands of families.
Octavio Romero Oropeza, Director General of Infonavit, announced that the new homes will have 60 square meters of construction and will include all basic services, located close to workplaces, schools, and hospitals. Meanwhile, FOVISSSTE will contribute with rental programs and benefits to resolve 400,000 outstanding worker and former worker credits.
Governor of Campeche Layda Sansores San Román celebrated the launch of this historic housing program and thanked the federal government for its investments in roads and highways linked to the Tren Maya project. The event was attended by federal officials, representatives of involved institutions, and FOVISSSTE and Infonavit beneficiaries.
