President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo announced that beginning in 2026, Mexico’s Salud Casa por Casa program will provide free cataract surgeries for seniors as part of the government’s commitment to improve well-being and deliver health services to those most in need. “There can be no better government than one that brings love to the people,” the president stated during the program’s assembly in Michoacán.

Sheinbaum emphasized that work is already underway to expand this benefit to cover other conditions that affect older adults. The priority, she said, is not just to treat diseases after they appear, but to promote well-being through prevention. She also praised the efforts of community health workers and social service agents, describing them as an extension of the government that reaches directly into people’s homes.

Currently, over 800 nurses, doctors, and health workers are involved in the program in Michoacán. They have conducted more than 52,000 home visits, offering care to seniors and people with disabilities. Sheinbaum highlighted that this work reflects the government’s territorial approach and its commitment to remaining close to the population.

For her part, Social Welfare Secretary Ariadna Montiel Reyes underscored Salud Casa por Casa as a vital tool for prevention and care, aligned with the Fourth Transformation’s goal of building well-being for the people. Health Secretary David Kershenobich Stalnikowitz echoed this, stressing that prevention is the program’s core focus to help seniors age with dignity in their own homes.

Michoacán Governor Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla reported that the program is already benefiting four Nahua communities in Aquila. The event was attended by federal health, welfare, and government officials.
