Macuspana, Tabasco – President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo has initiated the construction of the 300-kilometer Macuspana-Escárcega highway, aiming to enhance connectivity between the states of Tabasco, Campeche, and Chiapas. With an investment of 11.2 billion pesos, this project is set to benefit over 760,000 residents and is scheduled for completion between 2025 and 2028. «The project is underway; machinery is ready to operate. Additionally, we will support Tabasco in repaving all its roads to eliminate potholes,» stated Sheinbaum.
Project Details and Employment Generation
Jesus Antonio Esteva Medina, Secretary of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transportation, explained that the project includes expanding 130 kilometers to four lanes, while 170 kilometers will undergo maintenance. The construction is expected to generate over 33,000 jobs and will feature 103 structures, five vehicular overpasses, six interchanges, nine turnarounds, 29 pedestrian crossings, 39 rest areas, and 35 bridges.
Economic Development and Social Justice
Sheinbaum emphasized that this initiative is part of the National Highway Infrastructure Program and will bolster tourism and the economy by connecting strategic points near the Maya Train. She also announced that the federal government will purchase Tabasco’s cacao production to process into chocolate for distribution in the Tiendas de Bienestar (Well-being Stores).
In the social sector, she reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to ongoing Welfare Programs and introduced three new support initiatives:
- Pensión Mujeres Bienestar: A pension for women aged 60 to 64.
- Beca Rita Cetina Gutiérrez: Scholarships for secondary school students.
- Salud Casa por Casa: A program providing in-home medical care and medication delivery through the Farmacias del Bienestar (Well-being Pharmacies).
«The Fourth Transformation embodies social justice and economic growth. With these programs, Mexico continues to set a global example of governance for the people,» Sheinbaum highlighted.

The president also noted that on June 1, Mexico will become the world’s most democratic country, as citizens will have the unprecedented opportunity to elect judges, magistrates, and justices of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN).
