President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo has initiated the construction of 31,500 homes in the state of Hidalgo as part of the Housing for Well-being Program, aiming to establish access to housing as a fundamental right. The groundbreaking ceremony took place in San Agustín Tlaxiaca, where 2,500 homes are slated for construction this year, benefiting thousands of vulnerable families.
Program Details and Objectives
The program plans to build 6,000 homes in 2025 and a total of 31,500 over the six-year term, with 11,500 units by Infonavit and 20,000 by Conavi. The initiative seeks to provide dignified housing for those in need, countering previous policies that commercialized housing and distanced families from workplaces and essential services.
Features and Financing
Octavio Romero Oropeza, Director General of Infonavit, stated that the homes will be comfortable, accessible, and equipped with essential services. Conavi will offer zero-interest loans to individuals without social security. The project also includes rental housing for young people and land reserves in areas like Ixmiquilpan and Tepeapulco.
Strategic Projects and Regional Development
President Sheinbaum highlighted additional strategic projects in Hidalgo, such as the Mexico-Pachuca Train, the Huejutla-Tamazunchale highway, and the construction of hospitals and circular economy centers. Plans also include the comprehensive cleanup of the Tula thermoelectric plant and the modernization of irrigation districts in the Mezquital Valley, aiming to boost regional economic and social development.
State Support and Land Provision
Governor Julio Menchaca Salazar praised the project as a significant advancement in dignifying housing and noted the state’s support through land donations for home construction. This initiative marks a substantial step toward improving the living conditions of Hidalgo’s residents.
