President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo has presented a series of reforms to the General Population Law and the General Law on Forced Disappearance of Persons, aiming to combat the crime of disappearance through technological tools and improved institutional coordination. A key measure is the creation of the Unique Identity Platform, designed to facilitate information exchange and optimize search processes.
Key Initiatives:
- Unique Identity Platform: Integrates the Unique Population Registry Code (CURP) with photographs and fingerprints, enabling real-time consultations across all levels of government to aid in the identification of individuals.
- National Database of Missing Persons Investigations and National Forensic Data Bank: Linked in real-time to ensure immediate response to any report.
- National System for Alert, Search, and Localization of Persons: Issues immediate search notices upon receiving a report.
President Sheinbaum emphasized the government’s responsibility to address the issue of missing persons efficiently and transparently. Legal Counsel Ernestina Godoy Ramos explained that these reforms aim to eliminate delays in searches through advanced technology and real-time data integration. Additionally, stricter penalties will be imposed for crimes of forced disappearance or those committed by individuals, ensuring a comprehensive and just approach for victims.
