Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo emphasized that the ongoing, coordinated efforts of the Security Cabinet have led to major advances in the fight against crime. From October 1, 2024, to May 18, 2025, authorities seized 10,962 firearms, 157 tons of drugs, dismantled 915 drug labs, and arrested 21,411 individuals for high-impact crimes.
Speaking during the morning press conference “Las Mañaneras del Pueblo,” Sheinbaum stressed that these results would not have been possible without the professional commitment of the Security Cabinet. She reaffirmed that her administration works every day not only to combat the consequences of violence but also to address its structural causes.
“We are defined by honesty, integrity, and responsibility. And that responsibility means staying true to our causes and working day and night to serve the people of Mexico and build security and peace through social justice,” Sheinbaum stated.
Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection Omar García Harfuch explained that the security strategy is based on close coordination between the federal government, state authorities, prosecutors’ offices, and the National Intelligence Center (CNI). He also highlighted the success of the Northern Border Operation and the deployment in Veracruz, which led to over 4,600 arrests and the seizure of more than 40 tons of drugs and weapons.
Meanwhile, Interior Secretary Rosa Icela Rodríguez reported progress in the Addressing Root Causes initiative, which has benefited more than 1.4 million people through Peace Fairs and cultural activities. She noted that over one million young people participated in the Tequios for Peace and Against Addictions initiative, and through the Yes to Disarmament, Yes to Peace program, over 1,600 firearms and nearly 4,000 toy weapons were voluntarily surrendered.
