President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo emphasized that, thanks to the National Security Strategy, Mexico has achieved a 15% reduction in the average daily number of intentional homicides between September 2024 and February 2025. She also noted that February 2025 recorded the fewest homicides in the last eight years, with a 26% decrease compared to 2019.

During her address at the morning conference «Las mañaneras del pueblo,» Sheinbaum underscored that these results stem from coordinated efforts with security forces and cooperation with the United States under the bilateral agreement to combat drug trafficking. She highlighted the seizure of 266,000 fentanyl pills in Sinaloa as part of the Northern Border Operation, demonstrating the impact of the implemented strategies.

Strengthening Security and Combating Organized Crime

Between October 2024 and March 2025, the government achieved:​

  • 14,517 arrests of individuals linked to high-impact crimes.​
  • 7,375 firearms seized.​
  • 125.8 tons of drugs confiscated, including 1,271 kilograms and over 1.6 million fentanyl pills.​
  • Location and destruction of 475 clandestine laboratories in 14 states.​

Additionally, during the Northern Border Operation from February 5 to 9, 1,287 individuals were arrested, and authorities seized over 1,200 firearms, 143,734 cartridges, and nearly 20 tons of drugs. The president also announced an upcoming meeting with Guanajuato Governor Libia Dennise García Muñoz Ledo to strengthen security coordination, as the state has experienced a 33.3% increase in homicides in recent months.

Reduction in High-Impact Crimes

Between January-February 2019 and January-February 2025, 10 out of 11 high-impact crimes have significantly decreased:​

  • Femicide: -26.3%​
  • Intentional injuries by firearm: -28.8%​
  • Kidnapping for extortion: -74.3%​
  • Robbery with violence: -29.1%​
  • Vehicle theft: -45.8%​
  • Home burglary: -26.2%​
  • Business robbery: -47.3%​
  • Public transit robbery: -56.9%​
  • Cattle rustling: -42.1%​
  • Drug dealing: -29.8%​

The only crime that has increased is extortion, with a 12.6% rise during the same period.
